Not because the personalization & social and political commentary as well as the ideals and concept it represents aren't extremely important to me, but rather a fresh direction and opportunity has arisen.

vein will be transitioning into a collaborative partnership with my dear friend Baby Alpaca. Hire me! We had an amazing senior thesis show at DAAPworks and I was so proud of our collective efforts.
www.ucgd09.com

_past projects of the six months.

1. GRASS which was a cross-genre DIY market style event held in the Niehoff Urban Studio in the Center for Design went incredibly well. Rosie Kovacs, Dita, Brian Leckrone, Genevieve Rainsberger, Floyd Freshdaily Johnson and I were the primary co-organizers. We had over twenty vendors of diverse origins. It was most importantly a constructive and community oriented event, inspired by our desire to make the public more aware of independent designers.

2. Eat Fuck & Die, a solo show at the Comet featuring installations inspired by the politics behind VEIN spoken in a much more obvious, aggressive way. Porn, chainsaws, and meat were incorporated with large scale jewelry and prints. Many thanks to Brian and Dita for their creative contributions and time!

3. Collaborative photoshoot with Poncho Rose by B. Clarke Wellington in the most magical and terrifying Ice Cream Factory backyard. We got all our friends to come out and model, this was super fun.

Me queda un bejou

<img style="display:block; After finding out she was a sculptor (my 3 dimensional workor lack thereof is very limited) & a complete recluse (yeah totally me too), I was left scratching my head about our similarities.
Her social habits aside, I checked out a book by her & some internets browsins and promptly became fascinated with her body of work.
I rarely identify with a gut-wrenching way with most female artists, not to be a gina generalizer but its true. & I have just done two posts in a row about females.
A show of her work JUST ended at the ny MOMA one month ago. I could have seen her work up close and personal when I was there for New Years, alas.
Well, I am following this with an excerpt from better executed and more stylistically accurate review of her by Stephanie Buhmann.

+
"Brilliantly dark with an inherent sense of foreboding, Lee Bontecou’s work reveals itself through the unraveling of layered thoughts and textures without losing its unpredictability. The experience is akin to travel—a pastiche of impressions, some recognizably of the here and now, and others hinting at an imaginary future.
In Bontecou, we are suspended between realism and science fiction, part poem, part scientific inquiry, every detail ready to morph into omni-applicable symbols. Many of the works in this exceptional exhibition, date from the late 1960s and early 1970s, and were exhibited at the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1971. They marked a radical departure from Bontecou’s acclaimed sculptural canvases, which she stretched over welded steel, as well as an end to her professional relationship with Castelli. In 1972 Bontecou left the gallery to avoid the constant pressure to produce and abandoned a public career. Throughout the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s, she preferred the privacy of her studio, focused on raising her daughter and teaching.

While these works were critically savaged at the time of their first showing, today at Knoedler, after decades of postmodernism, pluralism and feminism, it would stand to reason that our contemporary point of view would be decidedly different. As nightmarish as some details may be—fish with pirhana-sharp teeth and mutated flowers with gas mask-like heads, denizens of a Manichean universe where good and evil are locked in a cosmic struggle—the overall feeling is sheer elegance. There is a lightness of touch to Bontecou’s rhythmic fusion of transparent, vacuum-formed plastic shapes, which seem to defy the laws of gravity, and in the fine shading and treatment of volume in her drawings."

Actually Interesting in Cincinnati for once.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7u52X7h3YI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/kAXN9v3LDm0/s400/image.jpe" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168929341125549442" />
Yesterday, in Cincinnati, an unusual thing occured. Last morning in DAAP as I was wandering around the halls on my way from the CGC, complaining in my head about how effing expensive tabloid prints are, meandering to my studio I heard the unmistakable sound of music. Thinking nothing of it I continued on my way, only to be greeted by Jessica who informed me that there was not only music but an entire 4 piece noise band in a display case in the fifth floor. People. 4 of them. In a space something like twenty feet long, 9 feet high and two feet wide. Upon visiting this phenomena, I realized I knew two of the dudes.

The whole deal was far more about art installation & live performance art than the music, but I was actually surprised & somewhat tickled about the whole thing. Good job Aaron Walker & Jason Butler (& the other two whom I don't know.)

They were there from 7AM to 7PM, & I visited several times since it was super close to my studio.

maya & me

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7hoCH7h3TI/AAAAAAAAADo/CkMkiJrSfvA/s400/01.mayahayuk.cologne.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167994958105402674" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7hoDX7h3UI/AAAAAAAAADw/QkBQX71BkA0/s400/02.maya.pilgrim.01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167994979580239170" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7hoDn7h3VI/AAAAAAAAAD4/k8M6CTAdtV8/s400/07.maya.scrolls.3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167994983875206482" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7hoD37h3WI/AAAAAAAAAEA/SS4m4hmbfpY/s400/08.maya.tinys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167994988170173794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7hoEH7h3XI/AAAAAAAAAEI/3bdyr4BaOlU/s400/IMG_6215.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167994992465141106" />

Maya Hayuk. You can read an interview with her on Fecal Face again. I'm too lazy to post it. I think I can't get enough of the insane bright colors because I have a mild form of Seasonal Affective disorder. I could look into buying a uv hotlight, or I could just look at paintings and wear hot pink tights and my scarf everyday.
Got another job offer in SF, it's the one I really wanted the most. I don't know why I am waiting a few days to respond, but it seems like the unhurried, I have it together sort of thing to do. I'll post about it when I actually accept it. But needless to say it's nice to have that worry out of my mind, & the kind of work they do is much more in line with what I'm interested in, my social conscience & tendencies and what I want out of Design with a capital D.

speak low

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7cYbX7h3II/AAAAAAAAACQ/iTvAWyLZIRc/s400/image4.jpe" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167625955990166658" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7cYb37h3JI/AAAAAAAAACY/j70ZGcFFqEw/s400/image2.jpe" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167625964580101266" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7cYcH7h3KI/AAAAAAAAACg/VoFHwKZtk3g/s400/image1.jpe" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167625968875068578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AdhcgAA-hNE/R7cYdX7h3LI/AAAAAAAAACo/8RNirXz2cG8/s400/image3.jpe" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167625990349905074" />

Phone photos actually turn out intriguing at times.
I've taken enough photo classes to be a photo minor, including 4 x 5 cameras last summer. Just wanted you to glimpse the beauty of my gold boots. I am obsessed with them.
I went tothe Niehoff studio tonight, an experimental green design planning studio where
FUnk it, disco themed party was occuring, at which my good friend & housemate Sean (aka MrDr) was laying down some sweet disco funk tunes.
The outfit I wore was not related to disco whatsoever. However I am wearing my infamous gold boots, teal leggings, a navy&white man's thrifted sweater vest with a snug black cardigan on top (also thrifted). belt pale cream almost white with gold buckle- casa blanca.
My hair is only up because it's still not in good shape. Don't know what's up.
My earrings are my favorite earrings I have ever owned. Made by Rebecca, owner of venus Superstar in SF. I remember growing up with the internet, yet still feeling some degree of guilt about extensive time spent on social networking sites/blogging sites. No more, these days it seems like internet personality is not only normal but a necessary faction of life, particularly if you are a person who makes things and wants them to be heard/seen/bought.
I think I'm going to treat this like a sketchbook. I'll post silly things that I like or silly things that I make (i.e. writing, art, design etc.) I might cross post to my various other sites, but will
probably keep most of the silliness to here.

Firstly, I just finished my portfolio for my fifth internship, many sleepless nights later, I feel some degree of accomplishment. I am applying to places in San Francisco again, as well as Seattle, NY & Boston. Also part chimps which is an amazing band that also happens to be from London.
